Grasp Academy Case Study

Introducing our Oasis Program with Grasp Academy

Alquimista partnered with GRASP Academy, a Jacksonville-based charter school with a focus on students with dyslexia, to implement the “Oasis” program for the GRASP students.  Alquimista presented to The Green Team, an after-school club of 20+ voluntary students who aspire to make the world a better place with technology and environmental consciousness.

The goal of the program was to 1. Build an Oasis (water storage and filtration system) that may be used as a safe haven during natural disasters, and 2. Use these Oasis’ as a method to teach students about cutting-edge technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and Augmented Reality (AR), while promoting engagement and developing conscious environmental stewards.

What is an Oasis?

Oasis: An Oasis is comprised of the following components:

  1. Water Storage & Filtration

  2. Smart Water Irrigation System

  3. Hydroponics System

  4. Solar Powered

  5. Artificial Intelligence for learning + maintenance

  6. IoT Sensors

Our Oasis is designed 1. Provide safe and clean drinking water during natural disasters, and 2. An education hub and learning center for students.

Oasis: the Education Hub

  • With individualized learning at the core of our philosophy, we allowed students to interact with the learning materials in various ways: article readings, videos, and interactive AR-powered play. Students had full autonomy to choose their learning method of choice.

  • With Augmented Reality, we allowed students to learn with visualizations of the full life-cycle of the plants we planted and water chemistry.

  • We introduced the concepts of the Internet of Things with sensors that communicated the health of the plants in real-time.

Technical Specifications:

  • Use of augmented reality for interactive learning

  • Applied use of individualized learning

  • Automated water filtration system

  • Blockchain technology

  • Cryptocurrency implementation

Puerto Berrio, Colombia Case Study

In an effort to provide 50,000 students in Bajo Cauca with access to Khan Academy virtual education, Alquimista has established a partnership with Renaissance Jax to deliver devices (laptops and tablets) and internet connectivity to the region. Along with these devices, Alquimista has also identified a need for real-world skills training, and as such, they have partnered with Renaissance Jax to provide a curriculum focused on STEAM through FIRST robotics. Renaissance Jax is an official partner with FIRST®. As a FIRST Partner, they are responsible for growing the most advanced youth robotics competition platform in the world. From resource allocation, fundraising, event management, professional development, and community engagement, Renaissance builds community through vision and leadership. We all know that our world needs more good people who solve problems and make an impact with the value they provide to their community.

From 2013 to 2019, Renaissance Jax grew FIRST Robotics from 140 participants to over 7,000 budding young engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers in Northeast Florida. They work with over 2% of public school students in Duval County, the 20th biggest school district in the United States. This growth is record-breaking for FIRST globally and demonstrates that Renaissance Jax truly has developed a world-class program designed to engage the communities in which it serves.
